Marilena Greco is
professor in marine hydrodynamics at the dept. of Marine Technology, NTNU,
Norway, with a position started in 2010 with funds for five years from DNV (Det
Norske Veritas). Since 2023, she is part-time Researcher Director at the
research centre CNR-INM, Institute of Marine Engineering, Italy, and has been
Specially Appointed Professor (Honorary position) in 2020-2021 at OSAKA
University, Japan. Since 2004, she was associated with the Centre of Excellence
(CoE) CeSOS in Trondheim, first as visiting Researcher and then as Adjunct
Professor. In 2012, she was awarded, with other 5 key scientists, by the
Research Council of Norway for establishment and management of the CoE on
Autonomous Marine Operations and Systems, NTNU AMOS, worldwide recognized as a
leading research centre in marine operations; it ended in 2023 with a 10-year
budget 1000+MNOK and 120+ graduated PhDs. Since 2025, she is NTNU secretariat of
the NTNU-SJTU Joint Research Centre on Marine Technology. Up to 2024, M. Greco
supervised 54 MSc students with their theses, 6 PhD students, 3 post-docs at
NTNU, 6 internships. She has H-index 28 (Scholar), co-authored 130+
publications, is Associate Editor of Journal of Fluids and Structures and
contributes as referee for leading journals in fluid dynamics and marine
hydrodynamics. Her research interests are within marine hydrodynamics,
computational fluid dynamics, nonlinear free-surface and multiphase flows,
fluid-structure interactions, hydroelasticity. The investigations tools are
primarily numerical and theoretical, but also experiments are used. Recent
focus is on bio-inspired marine concepts, renewable energy sources in marine
environment, aquaculture, safety of vehicles in extreme sea conditions.
